This vegetarian dish can be served hot or cold

Heat wok on medium heat for 1 minute. Add oil and heat for another minute

Add sliced shallots to wok and fry shallots until golden brown and crispy. Keep stirring shallots to make sure it browns evenly. About 3 – 5 minutes

Drain shallots on kitchen paper and pour remaining oil into bowl and set aside to cool

Remove tofu from container and drain any excess water

Steam whole tofu in shallow bowl for 10 minutes to warm tofu

Remove tofu from steamer, drain any water from the bowl
7.
Combine thick soy sauce, light soy sauce, water with cooled oil (from frying the shallots)
8.
Pour sauce over tofu, garnish with crispy shallots and green onions and serve

To serve tofu cold, skip step 5 (steaming the tofu)

You can add some finely chopped pickled mustard green for the extra crunch and more umami flavour..
