Chickpea and Tahini Falafel

This was my first time experimenting with falafel after a request and I absolutely loved it!

Ingredients

Falafel

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced 
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric 
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne 
  • 1/2 tsp paprika 
  • 1 cup chickpeas, drained 
  • 1 tbsp tahini 
  • 4 tbsp oat flour (more if needed)
  • 1/3 cup coriander (optional) 
  • Salt to taste 
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Sauce 

  • 1/4 cup tahini 
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp sriracha 
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or tamari

Instructions

1.

Heat oil in a pan on medium high heat. Once hot, add the onion and cook for about 3 minutes.

Add the garlic and seasonings. Continue to cook for about 2 minutes.

3.

Allow to cool slightly and then add to a blender with the rest of the falafel ingredients apart from the 2 tbsp of olive oil.

4.

Blend until combined. Add more flour if needed.

5.

Form small balls with your hands.

6.

Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium high heat. Add the balls and cook for about 5 minutes each side until quite brown.

7.

Mix the sauce ingredients together.

8.

Serve the falafel balls with the sauce.
