Winter on Roczen

Your health journey does not need to be put on hold for winter - here are a few tips to help you through these colder months.

Plan your meals

Now more than ever is the best time to start prepping and planning. As more festivities are added to the supermarket aisles, so is the temptation. But having your meals prepped for the week gives you a much better chance of staying focused and on track

Try and stay active

You may not be able to get out and about as much as you would like but it’s proven that exercise can lift your mood and help you feel more positive. Exercise can lower your risk of heart disease whilst also helping to build lean muscle mass, which can boost your metabolism and help you burn more calories even when you’re at rest. Moving can also be a useful distraction from snacking!

Home workouts

Look up a set of home workouts that you can try out. There are multiple workouts in our Move section of Explore or on Youtube that we can guide you towards. By making physical activity a regular part of your routine over winter, you can improve your overall health, increase your energy levels, and achieve your weight loss goals.

Try to avoid ‘triggering’ activities

Does sitting on the sofa watching your favourite film leads to you craving foods that can impact your journey?  Try doing something mindful instead - have a hot bath for a self-care moment, do a puzzle, painting, drawing, knitting, creating art and craft christmas presents or wreath making to name a few.

Keep hydrated

It is harder to drink lots of cold water during these months, but hydrating is crucial whilst on a weight loss journey and fasting. Try and add in a few herbal teas to warm you up if you are struggling. We wouldn't recommend increasing your caffeine intake as sleep is so important but adding in some warm extras that are decaffeinated can really help. There’s dozens to try from!

Ensure you have a positive home support network

Make sure those close to you know how important your health is to you. There can often be times when there is unrealised peer pressure to indulge from friends and family but if they are aware of how important this is to you, they will support you better and it will make it all that little bit easier to decline what you don’t want.

Avoid alcohol

There are many reasons why alcohol can impact a health improvement journey and at this time of year in the UK, it is more prevalent in social situations. If you do drink alcohol, try to cut back or switch to alcohol free versions to avoid it impacting your mood, sleep, weight, hunger to name a few. Instead enjoy the increased energy and extra pennies for your savings.
